Our
names are Geoff and Michelle Morris, we have two children, Jake and Luke and
2 dogs called Sam & Buster. Geoff was raised in Bristol and Michelle in
Southampton, England. We married in June 1990 and now have two
wonderful boys. We were active members of St Thomas' Church
in Fair Oak Hampshire and enjoyed the opportunities the Church provided in
its outreach and Bible Study. We really felt we epitomised 'Mr and Mrs
Joe Bloggs of the congregation', not being able to play an instrument, sing
very well or enjoy standing up at the front. However, God has a divine
purpose in everyone's lives, we recognise that if nothing else, inwardly we
do have a huge heart for Jesus. We continually seek God's
will for our lives and it is our earnest desire to work for Him and walk his
ancient path. Geoff
had been praying 'Here I am God, Send me, I don't mind where, just tell me
to go and I will go' Well after 18 months or so God clearly said 'GO,
GO TO FRANCE'!! Shock horror as Geoff was not exactly a fan of all things
French!! After much confirmation, here we are living in France, but
with a real sense of having our roots still firmly planted in our
sending Church, St Thomas'. We have discerned that Gods Calling
upon our lives is to establish a Non Denominational Christian 'Place of
Rest'.
Our ministry is to
provide member care for cross-cultural non-salaried missionaries by providing 'no cost' accommodation at
'Le Reposoir' adjacent to our home in Northern Brittany, France.
God weaves incredible patterns through peoples lives and puts many people
together for his Divine purposes. He has called our entire family to
this Ministry and feel that He will reveal more of his plan as our boys grow
older. Now we have finished the renovation works on the old barn,
we continue to integrate as much as possible into the local
community. Upon moving to Brittany in the summer of 2005, our boys
have joined local Catholic schools where they have settled well, made good
friends and doing extremely well academically. We have been
disappointed and surprised however how little God features in the schooling
environment and in students lives, however, believe that the Catholic
schools are the
best option considering that as they get older, secular humanism is taught and
practiced in all Public Schools in France. Step by step we are
building relationships with people and creating outreach opportunities.
After spending all of our savings and more
to afford the Christian French language school fees and accommodation,
the budget to finance Le Reposoir was swallowed. After earnestly praying
for more finance God spoke to us at the same time but independently whilst Geoff was away in
the U.K. It was then that He revealed we were sat on the finance in
the form of our house which we owned but were renting out in Southampton.
We realised that our finances are a result of Gods provision, so the
decision to cut ties with our home land and sell the house to use the profit
was made that much easier! We have since sold our home in the UK and
have used the profits for the renovation works to enable the opening of Le
Reposoir.
We had been up till the end of 2007 able to re-organise our UK based business
to afford us an income to live on here in France. However, since
January 2008, we have had to make our 1 employee redundant and are now
living off our limited savings whilst searching for alternative sources of
income. Whilst presently not needing to be at Le Reposoir 24x7
there most definitely is a need to be here some of the time to be able to
pray, listen, chat and spend time with our guests if they so wish.
This complicates the work situation making full time employment not a
possibility, our work for God here comes before anything else, we
believe that more and more our presence will be needed here at Le
Reposoir as our ministry grows into a world wide established 'Missionary
Place of Rest'.
Geoff is still involved in finishing various repair and maintenance projects
on the property, enhancing the services we will be providing for our guests.
All the family are involved in a local French Church in Rennes, and we are
active in our outreach projects within the local French and English
ex-patriot community, whilst being here to host our guests.
